Privacy
rainbo is a color picker that works on your Mac and keeps what you pick there.
What you pick stays on your Mac
Your colors, your history and your color systems are stored on your Mac. For each color you pick, your history keeps its values, its color space, the time you picked it and the name of the app it came from. rainbo has no account, and none of that leaves your Mac. Apart from checking for updates, described below, the app makes no network connections.
Why rainbo asks for Screen Recording
macOS only lets an app read the colors on your screen once you allow Screen & System Audio Recording. While you pick, rainbo holds a still image of your whole screen in memory, so nothing under the magnifier changes as you move. It never writes that image anywhere and lets it go as soon as you’ve picked. What it saves is the color you picked and the name of the app it came from.
Checking for updates
When rainbo checks for a new version, it asks this website for the list of releases. Like any web request, that check shares your IP address and which version of rainbo you have. The option to send details about your Mac along with it is turned off.
This website
This site sets no cookies. Visits are counted by Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies, doesn’t identify you and doesn’t follow you across sites. It reports totals, not people. That’s the only request to anyone else, and adding ?notrack to the address of any page here stops your browser being counted for good.
Questions
There’s no account and nothing reports back from the app, so if something goes wrong or you have a question about this page, write to rainbo@rexchekal.com.
